Administrative and biographical history: The United Reformed Church (URC) was formed in 1972, when most of the congregations of the Congregational Church in England and Wales and the Presbyterian Church of England joined together. A small number of Congregational churches continued to be independent. Later the United Reformed Church was also joined by the The Churches of Christ in 1981, and in the year 2000, the Congregational Union of Scotland joined the URC. Individual Congregational churches were renamed as United Reformed Churches, maintining their own marriage registers. In Glamorgan, these included the United Reformed Church, Bridgend; Ely United Reformed Church, Cardiff; Providence United Reformed Church, Mountain Ash; New Trinity United Reformed Church, Cardiff; and Highfield United Reformed Church, Porthcawl.
