CONTEXT

Administrative and biographical history: Gwynedd Archives Service used government employment schemes to undertake a project recording oral history evidence in Anglesey, Caernarfonshire and Merionethshire. The contents of the recordings were summarised for a catalogue, and also transcribed. The recordings were conducted between 1983 and 1992, and cover a wide range of subjects, including life on Anglesey, work, social life, life in the Services, farming, the Second World War, and election addresses from the 1987 General Election campaign.

Scope and content: Papers and recordings of the Gwynedd Archives Service Oral History Tape Recordings, 1983-1990; including Oral History interviews of Alun Owen on The Whalers of Anglesey, 1984, and of others concerning life on Anglesey, work, social life, life in the Services, farming, the Second World War; and election addresses from the 1987 General Election campaign.

ACCESS AND USE

Language/script: Welsh, English

Physical characteristics and technical requirements: Some of the tapes are unclear. The majority are transcribed, either fully or in part.

System of arrangement: Arranged chronologically by date of interview into various subjects, and a separate catalogue for whalers.

Conditions governing access: Restricted access to the Kenneth Sydney Horton tape recordings, 1985.

Conditions governing reproduction: Usual copyright regulations apply.

Finding aids: Hard copies of the catalogues are available at Archifdy Ynys Môn/Anglesey County Record Office, the National Library of Wales, Caernarfon Record Office and the National Register of Archives.
