Administrative and biographical history: In 1970, the Vale of Rheidol Railway (VOR) became one of the founder members of the Great Little Train of Wales Joint Marketing Panel, and the Vale of Rheidol Railway Supporters' Association (VORSSA) was founded, acting as a pressure group ensuring the line's future, making it commercially successful. VORSSA have supported the VOR by distributing publicity material, by providing an exhibition in the Aberystwyth Station waiting room, refurbishing the photographic exhibition, and by organizing circular tours. British Railways sold the VOR Railway Company Limited to the Brecon Mountain Railway in 1989; the new owners did not wish to be associated with VORSSA, and the Association disbanded. In 1996, VOR was sold again to its present owners, the Phyllis Rampton Narrow-gauge Railway Trust. Today it is run by professional staff. The Cambrian Coast Line Action Group was a separate organisation, campaigning for the retention of full passenger services on the Cambrian Coast British Rail branch line from Dovey Junction, Machynlleth, Montgomeryshire, to Pwllheli, Denbighshire, in the face of proposed closure in 1971.
